What happens to warranties when you move to another country?

My wife and I plan to move to the Mediterranean when we retire in a couple of years. Her family is from the middle-east and she will be able to see them more frequently. And, to be honest, my family seldom visits me in Philadelphia. They frequently visit my brother, who lives on the water in Charleston, SC. Maybe they will visit me more often, if I live some where more interesting?

Anyway, I was wondering what to do regarding photographic equipment warranties when we move. Do I need to ship back to the USA for work? Can I ship back for work? Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Pick the costliest item and contact the manufacturer - whatever they say chances are the rest will also say. (you could send an email to all)
I would think in the EU you would probably be OK - if N Africa side maybe not, may be covered by Italy (?).

Alternative may be to insure all risks and 'drop it' when something fails.

Usually they stay the same, are not transferable and you can send the item to the country you moved away from!

You can ask the companies?

I suspect (at least here) the authorized dealers try to keep down the gray market by honoring the warranty only those cameras retailed here. However, if you register your purchase with the manufacturer when you bought it, you may get universal warranty coverage. Most people don't do that because we are not required to do it.

You send the camera to the country of sale for service.

We moved to the mountains, three hours away from our families, and they very seldom visited, so it worked!

Contact the camera's service department. They'll have the answer.

If it is an international warranty there should be no problem. If it is a USA warranty the chances are excellent you will have to ship camera or lens to this USA for service.

Hmmm. Just make sure you aren't trying to send from one of the magic 7 countries cuz your equipment will no doubt get pulled off the plane and detained at the airport ... and you'll never be able to follow it to get it back.

Here's my WAG:

Any warranties you have now will have expired in a 'couple of years' when you move. Any toys you buy after you move will have an 'over there' warranty. Just don't buy any new toys for a while and totally avoid the problem.
