These are in the town of Katy, TX about 20 miles west of our part of west Houston. The area around Katy used to produce huge amounts of rice, some of which was dried and processed in these silos. Today most, if not all, of the former rice producing areas are covered by subdivisions and shopping centers. I don't know how long these have sat idle, but they stand like huge white elephants almost in the middle of downtown Katy. Since there were no fences to restrict access, I was able to get very close to the subjects for my shoot. With the exception of the first image, all are in B&W (sort of a departure for me ). In processing these, I tried to create some extra impact with increases in contrast and clarity. Comments welcome and I hope you enjoy.

Tom, I spent a lot of time looking at each image. For me, the compositions (and your pp) are super-interesting studies of architectural details, textures and shapes, with the sad undercurrent of documenting a history of more prosperous economic times. Very well done!

Excellent set of industrial decay Tom,it always saddens me to see a once thriving building fall into such disrepair.

Thank you very much Jim for taking a look. The overall economy of Katy seems to be doing quite well, at least in terms of population growth. But this segment, like a lot of other agriculture related industries, is basically history.

Thank you Karin for taking a look and commenting. For that last photo I used my 10-22mm wide angle lens.

Very nice shots. I remember going to South Texas years ago and saw a lot of rice farming. Every where you go anymore in the US, I see empty shells of building and farms replaced by housing. Don't know what is going to happen to all our farms.

Thank you very much Angela for looking in and for your lovely comments. I appreciate it. I usually shy away from B&W, but it seemed to make sense for these almost colorless subjects. I will have to admit, I was pleased with the way these photos turned out after some processing in Lightroom.
