Old Faithful is not a geyser.....
It's a Great Blue Heron. Seems like no matter how miserable the weather, if nothing else is out and about I can almost always find a Great Blue that is tolerant of photographers. Sunday morning was chilly, windy and overcast - an all around drab day. We paid a visit to the Lake Woodruff NWR. Nothing much was stirring except a couple of Great Blues and a sizeable flock of Black Vultures - the undertakers. The vultures were being contrary so I didn't bother with them.
Nice shot Carol, I love the way it's clutching that rock like it's going to throw it at someone. Good to have a dependable friend.

Thank you Bruce. He was the only nice bird in the area. He was just a short distance from the crowd of vultures. I suspect he was trying to make sure he looked alive - I know I was!
Nice detail and a very appealing pose. Great dof for separation from the background. Not a bad "drab day" outing

Nice shot Carol, they are always worth our time. I'm guessing his faithfulness is based on his metabolism but a reliable subject is always a blessing.
Best regards, Phil

Thanks for the kind words. I was glad to get at least one keeper. The vultures were being ugly so the heron was my only opportunity!

Thank you Phil. I have a real fondness for the Great Blues. They are usually fairly slow moving and they are attractive birds too.

Thank you Jim. I was really glad to get out. Haven't done much shooting the past 3 or 4 weeks.

No problem. Karin posts good pictures!😊
What a wonderful post, Carol, and a beautiful shot of Old Faithful! I remember one time when our family was picnicking under a cabana on the beach, I turned around and met a juvenile Great Blue face to face. He had sneaked silently up the boardwalk and wanted a sandwich, so I gave him a bite of mine. He wouldn't touch it until I scraped off the mustard.
