Will a Cost/Benefit report be generated by CA or Feds regarding California's taxes to IRS versus quitting the union?

I thought that conservatives were in favor of local control of everything. I guess they don't want the federal government to tell the states what to do unless they agree with the federal government instead of the local government. It is getting very confusing. Maybe some alternative facts will straighten it all out.

there are no overarching philosophies... people often take positions that are against their best interests and ideologically opposite to their other positions.

Well you thought right for a change. Conservatives, where it is appropriate always prefer local control over any overreaching national control. But when it comes to immigration that is a NATIONAL issue. When it comes to immigration what happens in one state has the potential to affect any of the other 49 states and possibly the territories. If we did not enjoy the freedom of movement from state to state that we do enjoy then that would not be true. But we are a free country with unhindered freedom of movement so immigration has to have central or Federal control and that control take priority over state or local control. You will not need any of your stupid alternative facts to understand that will you?

What does the constitution say about the feds regulating immigration?

But the Constitution itself—from which all federal powers derive—does not delegate to the federal government power over immigration, only over naturalization. Thus, when the government's motivation for enacting i*********n l*ws is to further genuine compelling foreign policy goals, the laws will be upheld. But when the government's motivation is nativism or fear or hatred or favoritism, strict scrutiny will operate to defeat those laws.

Shortly after the first federal immigration statute was enacted in the 1880s—the Chinese Exclusion Act—the Supreme Court ruled that aliens, whether here legally or illegally, are persons, and the Constitution protects all persons from governmental deprivation of life, liberty and property without due process.

At least they shouldn't have to worry about forest fires this year. Maybe next year the feds will yank funds for flood/fire protection?

If Ca. left the US we would be overrun by the drug cartels, rampant murder corruption. Californians would cry like a bunch of babies.
All of the social programs that people were accustomed to, gone. That extra money now goes into the hands of the politicos.

Now THAT sounds like really factual statement. What exactly does that mean?

Could CA survive without Fed money?
How do states get their money and where does it come from?
Your saying that Montana with a handful of people is subsidizing CA?
You live here, you know that CA is the leading producer of just about every product, from technology to dairy.
You also know, that if CA where an independent country it would have the 8th largest economy in the world!! Period. Even if it has dropped to 12th, it has a larger economy than almost every other country in the world.
You predict doom, of course you do, you're a conservative, they're all like that!
Just because YOU would cry like a baby, doesn't mean everybody here would. Because YOU would be scared sh*tless, don't think everybody here would be! The GAY community and the pot industry alone could float your ass until you got your act together.
Tell us why the state would be overrun by cartels? Because we would'nt have trump money to fund La Migra?!
What CA could make on charging for tourist visas alone could probably fund this state.
This state was probably 80% non trump v**ers.
A referendum to secede would be pretty interesting.
If it came to happen, just think of all the liberals that would vacate congress and you could install trump as a dictator and you could have him make America great forever!!!
Oh, and you Soba, could move to Texas!!!

I realize all of that, but why is the state always broke?
Like I said you do realize we would be overrun by cartels.
Is that what you want?
What about military, all US military bases would be moved. Unless we paid the US govt to protect us from foreign
invasion

As where would funding come for wic programs medical education infrastructure police fire etc.
Would the more well to do counties share the wealth with the less fortunate.
Hell we still aren't compensating those in the upper most northern region of Ca.
for supplying the water.

my uncle worked for the county..at some point it became more lucrative to retire, my mom's neighbor was a CHP. He retired at 55 with 95% salary + disability... he goes hiking in the hills every weekend.
