I own Lightroom 5. I am thinking of renting the adobe lightroom/photoshop. Will I be able to use both Lightroom programs?

Define renting? Do you mean to Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription model or something else?

OP, ignore silva. He mostly acts like the southbound end of a northbound mule.Yes you can keep both. Where you will have a problem is that you will need to keep the Lightroom catalogs separate to continue using LR 5 after you load the LR CC. Default is for LR CC to kidnap the Lightroom 5 catalog and use it as it's own.

The only folks I know who have problems with losing photos is Lightroom are renting it. Just a thought

If LR5 supports your camera RAW and you don't see yourself buying a new camera for a while, there's no compelling reason to change to the subscription model. Your existing software will continue to run as-is at the original purchase price (no new cost). The CC model doesn't do anything to your existing software nor the catalog leaving them in-place with the new LR6 software installed in parallel on the computer. To the novice, this is likely a point of confusion including the question of how do I get my old work into my new catalog?

You mean subscribing to it. And people who don't understand how Lightroom works and aren't willing to put in the time to learn it properly can mess up access to their images regardless of the version they use. And the issue isn't losing photos, it's either not understanding where they are and how Lightroom accesses them, or mistakenly believing that the files are actually in Lightroom after import. People often think they are in the program and end up moving or deleting the actual images that Lightroom references. Lightroom itself doesn't lose anything. Image loss (or more often confusion over why Lightroom can't find an image) is 100% user error regardless of what you might have heard or read.

Yes, but as state above, why would you want to. The Develop module is much more advanced in the CC version verses the 5th. I had the 5th and when 6 came out, it was by far a better program than 5.

Well, dumbass, maybe he is like me and wants to utilize both. It comes in handy to have both. I use lightroom cc for my large and what I consider important work and don't want to screw around with "premature cataloging". In the meantime I may do a shoot of a birthday party or just whoring around. I put that kind of crap into my lightroom 5.7 program Lightroom 5.7 is still a powerful program, so why get rid of it?

The person you responded to was pretty nasty and I agree there is no reason not to use both versions if that's what you really want. However, having read your explanation of what you do, and being a long time user of Lightroom since version 3, I don't see any advantage to your workflow using two separate versions of Lightroom. But if it works for you who I am I to argue.

It is only $10.00 a month and you get photoshop and bridge with it. I don't like bills either but once I pulled the trigger, I never looked back. Remember, lightroom was designed to be a "compliment to" and not an "instead of" photoshop. A lot of people use lightroom only for the ACR. If you want to save money, buy the latest version of elements and be done with it. It has the ACR built into it and it also does a lot of what photoshop does and still exceeds most people's needs.

You are just not getting it. It still is a viable program. Don't be such a lame ass. Any idiot can see that having 5.7 as a secondary program is a great idea if you want to use it as a secondary program (not as a backup) for just what I said, to work other shoots without losing the work that you are doing on the current CC program. God damn F*$%ing know-it-alls.

I'm not interested in joining the ongoing argument you're having with him, but I was wondering how you would lose the work on the current CC program if you started working on other shoots? All adjustments are saved automatically and you can go back and forth between multiple shoots at will. I do it all the time. Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant.

I have both Lightroom 5 and Lightroom CC. Personally, I much prefer 5. I use 5 vs CC probably 95% vs 5%. It doesn't mean something "stupid", it's a matter of personal preference.
