The verdict is in and it's a winner. I just have to give rave reviews about this very inexpensive lens. I was shocked at the lack of distortion and stopped down it has outstanding edge sharpness. If you are a Canon person and are thinking about a super wide angle. this is the one.

Glad you're enjoying it. This lens have been around for a while now, and although the build quality is strictly entry-level kit, the optics are of a quality that far exceeds the modest cost.

I have the lens although I have not used it much, I have been impressed with picture quality and the results. I bought it about a year ago from Canon refurbished.

I agree! For years I had been borrowing my brother's wide angle zoom when I needed one, and finally I decided if one has to borrow something that many times, then maybe it's time they should purchase one for themselves. I opted for the Canon 10-18 STM and it was better than I had anticipated. Lightweight, too! It makes me want to pick up a couple more of the STM lenses!

I agree with your assessment of this lens.

I have enjoyed mine tremendously - first lens I've owned with silent focus

Finding the right compositions can be challenging, but it travels in my bag every outing. I do love it.

Canon users shouldn't discount the Canon 10 - 22. I ended up buying this over the 10 - 18 because I thought (after the test shots I took with each) the image quality was slightly better (with my camera), it felt sturdier and better made and the extra reach is nice. The 10 - 22 is slightly more expensive but I thought it was worth digging a little deeper.

The Canon 10-22 is a very fine lens, with a much better build than the 10-18. In some respects, it is optically better than the 10-18, but in some other respects the 10-18 is better than it is. As to the price it's not slightly more expensive, it's double the price. $600 vs $300 new. Nothing slight about that.

Canon notoriously was weak in ultra-wide lenses up until the last couple of years but they have done well (for the most part) in producing better lenses. That statement applies more towards full frame lenses but on a budget, I understand the 10-18 is a great value if you own a CROP camera. My only complaint of the 10-18 would be the plastic bayonet mounting instead of metal.

If you think about it, when was the last time you wore out a plastic bayonet mount? IMO, we worry about this far too much.

Rats! I must have wasted my money on the EF-S 10-22!
