Being recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it was recommended I do some exercise...with my spinal injuries I have never been able to do any but there's nothing wrong with my legs so I bought myself a bike last week...I'm loving it...it is playing up a bit with my back but hopefully it will settle down...the worst part is my sore bum bones...these skinny seats are murder when you haven't ridden for years..
Lorraine took these shots..

Good for you. Riding is a great exercise and low impact, as well. I'd suggest you get a good pair of riding shorts. They have a chamois pad sewn in them. That helps in more ways than just padding your bum.

Now I call that a happy biker, Ron, sore bum and all! Please tell Lorraine she did a super job with these shots! I wonder if you can get a replacement bike seat that isn't so skinny?

I bought a bike from a friend at our Match park yard sale. I haven't worked up the courage to ride it yet. It's about fiftey years since I last rode but then I lived on my bike. Great shots. I noticed that my bike has a narrow seat to. I wonder why that never bothered me back then?

As an 18 year type 2 and still able to control blood glucose through diet and exercise I have a recommendation. From Your picture, you are overweight. So consult a dietician to, based on your bone strucure, determine your 'ideal' weight. Using that as a target adjust your caloric intake to reach that target over, say, 6 months. Then attend some diabetic education classes to learn how to asses the carb, protein, and fat of foods. Next get a good paperback book on food nutritional values - I use Guidebook to Nutritional Factors in Foods by Phillips, it has been out of print for many years.
You will here about carbs. A carb is 15 grams carbohydrate which at 4 calories per gram is 60 calories. My dietician recommended the schedule of 4 carbs bkfst & lunch, 6 carbs dinner, 1 carb evening snack. That amounts to 900 calories daily. Next I was advised to keep protein & fats to at or under 900 calories. I took my allotment to 1700 cal to lose weight faster. Remember you are in complete control as you control the fork & spoon. You will be doing control for your 10 best friends - who are they, well they are those little things that stick out from you feets. Good luck.

The pictures aren't a true indication...what looks like a gut is actually my t-shirt hanging down as it's not tucked in...I do have a small paunch but it's something I cannot do anything about, it's a by product of some medication I have to take every day which causes bloating and there is nothing I can do about it. I'm the ideal weight for my height and am eating/doing all the right things as prescribed by my diabetes educator...

Thanks Angela...I've always been naturally very fit and if it wasn't for my spinal injuries I reckon I could play football again...well, maybe not the whole game... I played my last game when I was 50...

Something I should do too, Ron (but I don't have the will power to exercise). Nice shots.

Ron, Lorraine takes some fantastic photos. The photos posted under your name are yours, correct? I have thought about getting a three wheeler for the same reason. Keep it up.
