Does anybody on this forum have any photos that you have taken of Pointe du Hoc on the Normandy coast of France that you'd care to share with us?

I have some from 5 Jun 2015 but can't get to them right now (problems with Flickr®). I'll do something after the problem is fixed.

OK, Flickr® seems to have fixed their problem. My photos of Pointe du Hoc are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157656537610171/. That Album is part of a Collection about the Normandy beaches on 5 Jun 2015: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157656126136528/.

David: Thanks much for your photos of Pointe du Hoc...impressive.
Now I wonder if anyone else would like to post their own photos of this historic place.
Also anyone else have any comments about this place and it's history...and their memories.?
Remember June 6, 1944...it matters.

I was there a few years ago on my own. Never got to take any pictures. As I was standing on the viewing platform, a group of Americans with young Frenchwoman guide came up. The guide haughtily informed me that hers was a private tour and that I was very rude to hang around listening in. I slunk away, but whenever I think of that day, I wish that I had said something in return.

I believe I would have mentioned to her that I'd been there first and her group joined me on the platform. I would have stayed as long as I wanted to. And she was the rude one. Was she the reason you did not get any pictures, or was there another issue?

I don't know your age or history but a fitting reply might have been.

I was here way before you were :)

On the other side of the coin however, my wife and I were on a tour of Dachau when a couple of men came in to the room and stood there listening to the tour guide. She politely informed them that the rest of us had paid for the tour but they were welcome to join if they were willing to pay. They declined but continued to listen in anyway. The guide simply stopped talking, apologized to us and waited till the men eventually walked away.
The sad thing was the men were U.S. service members and clearly should have known better.

Blackest, when someone nails me, I never think of the right thing to say. Afterwards, I wondered if I should have mentioned that the father of one of my friends did not die there so that she could be alive to insult Americans. But I think that might have been laying it on thick.

True, but sometimes well deserved. She was way out of line. I can't imagine there was never a time when she got figuratively slapped back it probably wasn't that day though regrettably.
