Biannual inspection of the drive belt for the cams (and coolant pump) of the device for continuous motion that propels my daily driver.

Can you identify the manufacturer?

That was quick. Correct with the manufacturer. It's a 1.8 though... 94 Impreza AWD wagon.

It was time to renew the coolant, I decided to remove the radiator
hose the bugs and dirt out of the cooling "fins", reverse flush it and
the engine. It was a good time to get the covers off to check the timing
belt before the radiator goes back in. One thing leads to another as it does.

You drive a Suby fhuhman?

Hmmm, I thought the recommended interval for the belt change is 100,000km.
If it's the Foresters first belt change, and the change is not due to failure, that
is very reassuring.

It's 96F where I am as I type this and I have to get back into my metal garage
to put the Sub back together.

Hi, yes it was the first belt change and the service recommendation was to have it changed at 160,000 km. Just checked with missus and she said it was changed at 159000, 1,000 km early. No failure just regular maintenance.

Enjoy your heat, we see a little of that temp in July and August! But not enough of it.

My 2000 Outback Limited is still on original belts at 190,000 miles. It and wife's 1997 Legacy almost never need repair.

Looks like a flat opposed engine, Subaru, VW, but that was aircooled

When I took my legacy in for the windshield wiper motor Service Bulletin they want to do the timing belt on my 2011 Legacy, said it was do at 105,000, at the time it had 112,000 on it. I told them i would wait to have it done That may happen next month since i have to take in for the air bag service bulletin.

Air bag service? I didn't get that bulletin. Did the windshield washer cover last month. I have the same year Legacy.

I understand that the belt has to be changed at 106,000 miles. An odd number. If your belt goes while you're driving it, bye bye engine is what I heard.
Did it on our 2002 Imprezza Outback Sport. Got 165,000 miles before Sandy took it. Replaced it with a 2013 Imprezza.

88k on my Legacy & hoping to replace it before I have replace that belt. Looking at the 2017-18 Legacy Sport.
That'll be Suby #4.

The cam belt may or may not be made by the same manufacturer
as the vehicle... in this case though I suspect the former.
