Anyone still using one of these? I'm thinking about picking one up with the 1.4x to use on my em1ii with an adaptor.

The white one, not the black one.

I'm not using one. Is it an L lens?
Many of the older lenses tend to fringe more than the new coated lenses, especially if ettr! In bright light it doesn't take much.
Some are very reasonable, but they are NOT a new modern lens. Just a possibility.

And to think I thought canon was popular.

Ok, so has anyone shot with one of these before? Back in the day?

I had one back 30 ++ years ago. Back in the day it was a great performer! It was THE sports lens.. that and the 400 2.8 too! The lens' today are much better and mush easier to use but too much money! Actually THESE ARE the good ole days in photography! With the exception of everyone who pays $500 for a body and lens for Christmas is now a "Professional photographer" and feel the need to start a buisness..😂 Back when this lens was being used everyday it was a thrill to get "THE" shot at a big sports event! Obviously back then focus was manual...not auto! Now the equipment is so advanced that I guess if you can afford a $10,000 lens (Canon EF 400 2.8) and a $6000 body (EOS1DX II) you too can be a professional photographer!!
Good luck with grandpa...its a good un!

At roughly $600, I'm thinking it would perform quite nicely on the EM1ii.

Not still using but used them in the past. They are the standard by which the lenses of their period were judged by. It has the incredible optics including the fluorite element. This Canon does not have a fringing problem as alluded to. They are still optically superb to this day and worth get tingle if you can use it on your camera.

Thanks,
I look at sites like this and the urge grows stronger to pick one of these up since the examples are quite nice.

You are welcome. It really is a superb lens and the mirrorless cameras have brought new interest in the superb Canon FD lenses.

FD lenses came in L including the 300mm f2.8 as well. I have a 80 - 200mm L FD lens.
When it was black they just had SSC Fluorite in the name for the fluorite element.

Well guys...as good as these lenses sound, I've got an inside track on a Olympus 150mm f2 and an EC-20. I know it's not a 300 2.8, but it will be 100% AF with all the latest coatings. It's a blistering sharp combo at half the weight.
