Golden Spike National Monument again.

I loved the earlier post of the Golden Spike, where we were allowed an inside look. The monument was not open that day. Here are a few in season pictures. In my other life, my company manufactured a gooseneck trailer for this facility. It is used to transport used engine oil, which fuels these two locomotives. Thanks for looking.

You are welcome Pat. The road out to the Site goes past a rocket manufacturing plant. It used to build the main rockets for the space shuttles. You can walk around, and look at a lot of missiles models.

Thiokol. I watched a static firing of rocket propulsion unit there. Never seen/heard anything like that! Also found to be at fault in the Challenger tragedy with a defective O ring.

You are correct. I was going to say Thiokol, but I couldn't remember how to spell it. My company was in Logan UT. We could see the dust and smoke when the rockets were test fired. Thiokol once had a manufacturing facility across the street from my plant. They manufactured snow cats there. These were used around the world for ski slope grooming. They were also used by utility companies.

Thanks wbchinook, Yeah, I posted the earlier pics, but limited myself to just the scenes seldom photographed. It is a very interesting place for a train buff, and should be on their bucket list. I had wanted to see it for many years, and was especially fortunate to get the inside photo ops. Thanks for adding to the subject. JBruce

I am from Logan, originally, as well. Went to USU. My great grandfather was the station agent at Corinne (promontory) and my grandmother was the first woman telegrapher for the Union Pacific railroad. So I have had a life long interest in the Golden Spike era. Fascinating that the famous photo of the "touching locomotives" had the wine/champagne bottles removed when converted into paintings.
