A friend forwarded this to me and I thought I'd pass it along.

Back in the mid 1977's I purchased a Haselblad ELM camera which was the non space version of the camera in question For sales tax purposes (English sales tax then was 55% can you imagine) Hassleblad sold some cameras with fixed wide angle lenses) they were deemed for scientific use only. I needed a wide angle so this fitted the bill. The problem was that when the battery ran down the camera ceased to function, the mirro stopped where it stopped and would no longer work. The solution was to remove the lens and move a lever inside the camera. However sice the lens was bolted onto the body from the inside you could not remove it and it was a back to Hasselblad for repair. There was no way of knowing the charge remaining in the battery. I eventually had the bolt removed so you could change lenses and stuff. Great camera. I had it stolen in Trinidad while on a job. Have one pic left on paper of the camera and me!

I believe the camera you refer to was known as the SWC. I was jokingly refering to the actual Apollo cameras being on ebay.

I'm pretty sure that the Apollo moon cameras are still on the moon. Only the film magazines were returned.

Back in the 70's Hasselblad ran some ads that included information about the cameras taken to the moon. They extolled the virtues of the cameras, which was to be expected. They are very nice and very durable cameras. Anyway they also told of the astronauts leaving the bodies and lenses on the moon and taking only the film magazines back to earth. Weight reduction, I think. The ad said the cameras were there and free for the taking, if you wanted to go the moon to get them.

I'm leaving tomorrow to retrive them. How much weight reduction would that be? If 3 'Blads and lenses added too much weight I don't think I'd be going.
