Stormy coast shots.

All of these shots are from a recent outing. Normally I find it easy to choose which ones I want to concentrate on - the ones I think have most potential. With these I'm finding it a bit harder to decide, so I'm putting all of them up for editing to see what others make of them. Feel free to choose which shot or shots you think are worth pursuing and give them the sort of treatment you think they need. They are all SOOC so don't assume that horizons are straight etc.

The second one is my favorite. I love the way it leads my eye thru the rocky cliffs. I'd recommend the dehaze feature of Lightroom. Must of have been so exciting to be there in person!

The second one is my favorite, so decided to see what I could do with it. Looking out of my window, I see a monochromatic scene with white dominating, so went with adding some color and warmth to the scene. It can be stormy, but still have a little warmth.

Color balance problems remain. The foreground rocks are overly warm and the rest still too cold.

2 and 7. With lighting like that, you will have quite a challenge as usual. Good luck and show us the results.

I cannot imagine how wonderful to have the coast available for such shots. Here is my effort on my choice. I hope you approve.

Thanks for commenting, Donna. I was expecting #4 to be more popular than #2. I suppose it must be the extra leading line of the gully.

Exciting is one way to describe it . What's perhaps not obvious is the very strong and blustery wind that buffeted me constantly while I was there. Most of the shots were taken close to the edge of various cliffs, and the wind was making it difficult to stand up. Fortunately it was an on-shore wind.

Thanks for posting, CathyAnn. I can relate to your desire to add some colour. Storms can happen on sunny days so it's not entirely unrealistic. So that's another vote for #2.

Thanks for commenting, abc1234. 2 and 7 weren't the ones I was expecting to be popular, but it looks like you might be right. Rather than seeing the lighting as a challenge to be met, I'll just go with the mood as captured, concentrating more on seeing what visual enhancements I can give them.

Hi, RB. I think you've done wonderful things with the lighting in this one. I included #7 almost as an afterthought, thinking that the more dramatic close-ups of surf and rocks would draw more interest. I have another one similar to #7 that I'll have a closer look at. Thanks for your efforts.

I've spent a lot of time on the Pacific Coast, R.G., and I agree that there can be a storm and still have some color/warmth, but definitely not always.

I gave a shot at bringing out the ray of light from the clouds on #5 without making it look overprocessed. I did it on the laptop instead of my calibrated screen so it may not be ideal. The main thing was to slightly dehaze, then I took a brush to the ray of light to lighten it a little, then opened up the shadows a bit and straightened. Lastly I cropped out the smudge in the upper right corner.
