Took these pictures in Cache Valley Utah a while back. The cold air settles in the valley floor. This causes hoar frost to form. Thanks for looking.
The barn is a beautiful shot. I posted a few to close-up forum a couple of days ago with discussion about the difference between hoar frost and rime. There are many opinions
Excellent set of photos. I enjoyed seeing each one in download.
Thank you all for the complements. In a younger life, I owned and flew airplanes. I seem to remember, when studying weather, we looked at the difference. Hoar frost is formed when water vapor, a gas, freezes. Rime ice is formed when a liquid, water, freezes. Hoar frost totally encases tree branches, wires etc. Rime ice usually stacks up on top of limbs etc. I may be wrong, but that was the way I remember.
