Otter & Great Blue

I was at Lake Woodruff today and caught these 2 lovelies checking each other out. Naturally, the sun was not in my favor . . . so i have crazy shimmers. I welcome anyone to help me out with what i might do to soften the glint off otter's head. I tried lowering the highlights and whites (a lot), but as you can see, still have some serious star shine! All comments and suggestions welcome.

How wonderful to get TWO great subjects in one photo!!!! Beautiful! It's frustrating when the sun or atmosphere messes with our photos!

Very nice: two for the price of one. A polarizing filter will help cut down on reflections like that, but there you don't always have time to put one on in time to get the shot.

Great shots. I am not sure I would want to douse the highlight--must photos look so different from what we see? You could wipe the otter's brow and maybe try a bit of makeup or powder. Or use a polarizer in sunlight. One successful pro I know says you can't work in broad sunlight in the middle of the day--period. With film we could overexpose and then develop, and use compensating developer, and then dodge and burn... There are too many stops difference here between the highlight and the important shadow details, so I don't think digital sensors can cope.

Nice captures, even though I know you wished for better, but not only is the moment in your memory, you caught it in these images!

Thanks all! It was after a lingering rain that we decided to take this walk later in the day . . . not the best time for photography, but you really can't leave home without a camera! Anyhoo, glad i captured it; worth the glare!
