Can Anyone Explain the Differences/Advantages of a Mirrorless System Over a Conventional DSLR?
I have been seeing and hearing about the mirroless bodies lately. Can someone explain the differences, and if it is indeed superior to DSLR's?
Mirrorless bodies are smaller and lighter than most DSLR bodies and have fewer moving parts. They are for the most part, 100 percent electronic. Depending on make and model, lenses may be smaller and lighter or larger and heavier or the same as DSLR lenses. Are mirrorless better than DSLR'S? Depends on who you ask and what you are looking for. If mirrorless were superior then why are the top two choices of professional photographers the Canon 1DX II and the Nikon D5, both of which are neither small or light or inexpensive. There are many excellent mirrorless cameras available today but it's not so much a matter of whose camera is better, it's a simple matter of personal preference. Bottom line, no they are not superior, just different.
There are so many previous posts on this subject you can do a search. However, instead of asking someone you can research on the internet. First research and see what is an SLR and what is a digital mirrorless and how do they work. From that you can pretty much derive the pros and cons. Second go to store and check them out in person.

Start seeing and hearing about DSLRs as well, and you will know the differences.
The one thing mirrorless is truly superior at is shutter noise - there is none.

The mirror is pretty quiet, too!

Mirrorless are different. If they are superior to dslr or not depends on what you want to do with a camera. It depends on your photograpic style and needs. For some photography work dslr are superior to mirrorless and vice versa. So it is all up to you.

What I call shutter noise is all the noise the camera makes after you push the go button, including mirror slap.

Good video, Gene. I know the D800 will scare birds away at 50 feet.

Haven’t shot with a Contarex Super lately, have you?

Thank you. I did use the 'Search' function and found it basically Hogger's advocating the mirror less system they use. Not too much in the way of a difference between mirror less and a conventional DSLR.

Thank you for an easily understandable definition.

Thank you. I just may acquire a GAS attack, and purchase a mirror less system. My DSLR's are getting very heavy in my advancing age. I did just purchase a Canon G3X Powershot with the electronic viewfinder, and find it in the short time I have had it quite nice.
