Is there anything in a DSLR (Sensor) that would considered hazardous waste? Do I just put it in the garbage? it is completely nonworking, over 12 years old and not an expensive camera to begin with.

Just leave it on the table at an inner city MacDonalds , or Burger King and it will be gone in no time !!!

What is it? I have a large collection of cameras and I do my own repair and I'm always looking for broken cameras for parts. I might be interested in buying it or paying shipping and handling.

Sell it on ebay.

"Digital cameras, and particularly their batteries, contain both valuable rare earth materials and nasty, environmentally dangerous toxins. Consequentially never toss these items into the garbage. Minimally they should be brought to a recycling center or pickup station."

If it works, give it to a kid. I never liked the idea of donating it to a school. Schools that still teach photography don't want old, obsolete gear.

I have noticed that some people sell their old broken cameras on eBay, "for sale for parts only" and they usually get a enough money to say ...buy an extra battery for your new camera. Anyway - just an idea.

If you are handy, you can turn your dslr into a lamp.

Come on, the camera is not a toxic waste. A few pieces of plastic, some metal, and a few wires and printed circuit boards. Just through it in the garbage.

Depending upon the age of the camera it may have lead based solder in it which is bad news in land fill. Possibly mercury compounds, or other toxins.

Perhaps you live down stream from such a site, which could explain why you don't comprehend the issues!

A few of you people, not all by any means, must have your heads so far up your ass that your brains are suffering from oxygen deprivation...

I have never owned a DSLR long enough to wear it out because I suffer from GAS. When I suffer from this malady, I sell my old one on ebay or Craigs List.

Donate it to Goodwill. Solves all your problems and they might be able to do something with it.

You could always see if any photographers would like to use it as a prop, and give it away for free or sell cheaply.
