I have been using Lightroom 5.7.Now there is Lightroom 6 and Lightroom 6cc . Now my question what would I gain by up grading and what is the difference between 6 and 6cc.
I don't want to call Adobe because I'm afraid it would be like asking an insurance salesman if I have enough insurance. Now I am an old guy so please explain in simple terms.Thanks.

I resisted getting CC because I wanted to own my programs outright. I have since changed my mind because $10 a month is easy for me and I get all the upgrades automatically. It also includes both photoshop and lightroom. This way I am always up to date.

Its a great deal if you also use Photoshop. If you don't its not such a great deal.

The main benefit to upgrading is camera support for newer cameras. Frankly, I can't remember anything revolutionary going from 5.7 to 6. Camera support has been incrementally added from 6.0 to the current 6.8. But, there are no additional tools.

That said, some features between Lightroom CC 2015 and Lightroom CC 2015.8 are three tools: HDR Merge, Panorama Merge and the Haze tool. Those three tools have become important to me and you don't get them with the disk version. You can also "paint" with more effects.

A bonus to the CC plan is the Lightroom "mobile" stuff. Many yawn at it, but very gradually I'm findin parts of it fun to use.

Then as mentioned above, there is Photoshop that is bundled in the CC plan!

Another key question is the timing of Lightroom 7. Some say it will never happen and some say, based on Adobe history, it is due any day. If you join the CC plan, it won't matter. If you buy 6, freely update to 6.8 and have 7.0 out three weeks later, that could be sad.

Haze tool is in CC LR also, and easier to find and use than in PS. There is a third party app for LR6 with presets that duplicate the haze tool. But I do prefer the slider version in CC LR. I have LR6 on a laptop in case I discontinue CC, I will still have full access to my edits done in LR CC.

Even if you pay for a disk, you do not own the software outright!

For me $10/mo, or the cost of a single sixpack of craft brew or two large Latte Grandes, for a software suite that I use on a daily basis is a no brainer. Being in IT for many years, I fully understand the concept of licensing and ownership, and recognize that the monthly thing is just a payment option for software maintenance that spreads the cost over a year rather than one lump sum every 12-18 months, and not a "rental" any more than paying for it annually is a rental. That being said, the $10/mo is a bargain, and one less thing I have to worry about, since my software is always current, and since the updates and upgrades are issued to it's entire user base simultaneously, there is a better chance that there is more intense and careful testing and QA going on, lest they piss off millions of users, results in better quality software. Also, the updates and upgrades come faster.

Lastly, in an effort to nudge people over to CC, they are building in more functionality that is not being added to the non-CC version.

I have LR 6, and that's fine for me. I have no interest in paying $120 plus tax every year. I've often heard that LR 6 will be the last free-standing LR. There are loads of alternatives to LR, though, probably just as good - and cheaper - for all practical purposes. Take a look at Affinity.

I started out with LR4, and did not purchase any upgrades. It was fine for a while, did not miss the new functions. But eventually I decided the Adobe CC subscription was the way to go. My reason was partly because the upgrades started sounding worth having, and I wanted to learn PS. Never had PS before because it had always been so expensive! LR and PS work very well together, and I am very happy with my decision.

PS can be a bit daunting to learn because it has so many functions, some of them rather redundant, adding to the possibility of confusion. But the beauty of the subscription is you can learn one or two functions of PS at a time. I started with the one I wanted the most - Layers, and gradually added others to my repertoire of things I could use.

What I recommend, if you are considering the Adobe CC subscription, is to get the 30-day free trial first. I got the LR trial first, so I could see what was different from the version I had. Then about 1-2 weeks later I got the PS trial so I could figure out if I could learn to use it. Decided I would be able to use it as long as I didn't try to take in too much at one time. When the LR trial was up, I went into the subscription - a seamless transfer!

One more thing - since you already use LR, you do not have to also learn ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) which is within PS. One less thing to worry about! They are considered to be the same program, but their formats are different - the ACR requires a different mind-set than LR, and for me it was much easier to just use LR. More intuitive, less confusing...
