Went to my local camera shop to see if they carry the EP 3. Nope. They've got some 2s on clearance. Seems they have dropped Olympus out of fear that it won't be able to support its product in the future due to the recent scandal. This may have been addressed before in this forum, and if so I apologize. I missed it. What are the opinions among UHHers about the future of Olympus? Would it be dumb to buy an EP 3?

no it would not be stupid. If because of the financial scandal they spin off their camera division 9( Olympus also makes a lot of medical camera equipment) I am sure someone will buy them. Panasonic maybe, or even samsung. Their latest camera that looks like the old om-1's is getting great reviews and selling like hotcakes.

The store manager tried to push me toward the Sony NEX 7. It's a great camera, but almost twice the price. Since this is a complement to my Nikon D7000, I don't want to spend more on my second camera than the first.

Curious - if a compliment to the 7000 why not another Nikon?

Looking for something small. The Nikon 1 V1 just doesn't seem to cut it.

no it is about the board of control at olympus falsifying losses totaling over one billion dollars over a long periodof time. Had that been an american company that board would be having a mandatory vacation at club fed. Have not heard what the japanese government is going to do to them. but they are in much worse economic condition then they let on.

Understood. Went looking at my local store and found they've quit carrying Olympus. The manager tried to steer me to a Sony NEX 7 at $1350 when I could get an EP3 for half that. Opinion?

Being that the Japanese government has lied repeatedly about their nuclear disaster I would not trust them to get involved with Olympus. They probably own stock and are hoping for a good resolution to the scandal. Me, I wouldn't take the chance. If camera stores are not stocking Olympus cameras there is a reason for it.

someone will buy olympus. their cameras are popular, well made and have an excellant reputation. If you go with a 4/3rds model you can use panasonic lenses as well as oly. If an oly is what you wan't get the oly. Love the new one that looks like on ol om-1. if i had the moola i would probably splurge.

Olympus has had offers to partner with other companies and refused - they are here to stay - most stores don't stock anything but Nikon or Canon they are just starting to stock Sony in some stores
