I would like to buy a waist-length, 15-20 pocket photography vest. I have seen several in the store and they are poorly made (material, stitching, etc.). My price range is $30 - $120. Any recommendations???????

Domke. Best made and most versatile.

This is the one I have and it is reasonably well made and very versatile, lots of pockets.

Where do you get them? The Domke website does not show any vests. I can't seem to find them except on Ebay and Amazon, which might be counterfeit.

I also have a Domke. It has removable (zippered) sleeves that make it a vest when removed. The material is similar to the old military issue field jackets. It is water resistant, has a hood in the collar for damp weather. Lots of pockets and basically looks like a field jacket when you are wearing it.. It is (was) available in olive drab and grey. I have the olive drab. My Domke doesn't look like a vest until you unzip and remove the sleeves.

Domke discontinued the Photography vest but it is still available on Ebay. Adorama and B&H are out and can not (supposedly) get more.

I ahve two that I alternate, depending. The first one I got is a ScotteVest. It looks like a regular down vest, but it is loaded with pockets. People don't turn and stare when they see you. The other one I got was from TravelSmith. They have a nice assortment at reasonable prices.

Here's one on sale.

You should also look at the Duluth Trading Company "Working Man's Vest." I shoot large format and there are more pockets than I need albeit there are only 13. It is very well made, comes in different colors and is under $70. I have had one for years and no signs of wearing out.

I have one by Travelsmith. It is not marketed as a photographer's vest, but that is what I use it for. Of course, I also wear it when I travel by plane. It also has secure inside pockets. It is extremely durable, lightweight, dries quickly.

I suggest you look at Safari type vests that are sold by Cabellas and others. They have lots of pockets and are lightweight. They hold most of your batteries , Memory cards and other stuff. Also not very expensive .
