Just happened to look at pictures on my I-pad three, I had seen previously on my computer, a 15 inch Mac Book Pro and the difference is amazing. Dave says it is like the difference between HD and regular TV, whatever, it enhances what are lovely pictures even more so.

The latest iPad screen has a new level of quality not available anywhere else on any other screen. Your eyes cannot discern the iPad screen's pixels, as they can on every other device. Photos should look better on the iPad than anywhere else by default.

I've been considering getting one for a number oif reasons.
Does anyone know if the iPad display can be color adjusted, so that one might quasi-calibrate it somehow?
It seems like it would be a great tool to tether to my camera in the field if the color fidelity was there.

I think you're expecting too much from the iPad, but it is nice for viewing. With the Eye-Fi card, I can send my pics directly to the iPad, but you need the 8GB Pro for that (I think).

I use a Toshiba thrive tablet because 1. it's Android, 2. it has a full size SD card slot so I can take the card out of my camera and put the pics directly on the tablet., 3. it has a full size usb port so I can hook up a mouse keyboard, memory stick, etc., 4. screen looks great. It's a little bigger than most, but much lighter and portable than a laptop. You can find them pretty inexpensively now because the new models are out.

So, I wonder if Apple will apply this "new" screen technology to lap top screens anytime soon ???

They'd be crazy not to.

ONLY for RAW. Jpegs transfer with less expensive Eye-Fi cards.

I have heard the Apple laptops will be getting the "Retina" display from the iPad 3. Cool beans!

I'm not much of a tech. guy..... but what is this new display
technology that, for instance, is now used in the Sony NEX
viewfinder? Apparently it's super expensive now... but it will
eventually become affordable. It was explained to me but
I'm a bit fuzzy on remembering the details.... something like
no backlight and thousands of LED type gizmos create the image.
Maybe somebody will tell me what the hell I'm talking about.

I was thinking (I'll have to be more careful about that) about transferring when there is no Wi-Fi available. Then I can use the 8GB card, and it will send to whatever I want, directly from the card. I haven't tried it yet, but I downloaded the app. Someone mentioned that on this forum a day or two ago.

Every tablet/device has its advantages, to be sure. My personal experience has been that since I got the new iPad 3 and uploaded the photos I've taken of the jewelry I make, special-order sales have increased. Last week a lady tried to pick up a bracelet I was showing her on the screen because she thought it was really there! Ok, so she's a "senior" (aren't we all???), but I thought to myself, "Now that's a gooooood screen resolution!!" It's already paid for at least half the price of the iPad already!
Oh, and by the way, Apple makes a small $30 adapter that plugs into the power port. It has a USB slot and one for camera memory cards. You can even buy them at Target.

Rumours on the MAC forums say to expect a Retina Display option on the 13 and 15 inch laptops in the next version, maybe announced next week at Apples WWDC. The Retina Displays are rumoured to involve a surcharge of about $100.

I have the iPad 2, without Retina, and I that is very good. Someday I might get the iPad 8.
