What causes sun spots on our photos. Using Canon Rebel Ti 5. On our vacation and see it is on quite a few photos. How can we eliminate it while taking the photo.
Thank you - want to avoid them on the rest of our vacation.

Sun spots? Do you mean lens flare from shooting into the sun or very bright light? like on this link: http://vimeo.com/blog/post/lens-flares

If you are trying to prevent the flare just google "How to prevent lens flare".
Here is one very short article: http://www.lightstalking.com/reduce-lens-flare/

Are you sure they are sunspots, or are they dust on your cameras sensor?

Are you talking lens flare? Without an image it will be hard to tell and give any suggestions!

I like them once in a while. A polarizer might help.

Thank you, we're using polarizer and lens hood already - but shooting into sun for sunset in HI.

Try shooting without the polarizer. Filters are a major cause of lens flare.

Lens flare or "sun spots" like you call it is the result of shooting when the sun is visible in the viewfinder. A lens shade does not help and sometimes using the hand to render a shadow over the lens helps considerably. Make sure when doing that that your hand is not visible in the viewfinder.
This is something that will happen even with very good quality lenses.

It's always a risk when shooting into the sun, no matter what gear you use. Sometimes if the sunset or sunrise, and the sun is in just the right place, flare can be avoided. There are sometimes when you can use flare creatively to inhance the shot. BTW shooting directly (if the sun is high in the sky) the sun can injure your eyes.

Using cheap filters will cause them too. Replace with quality ones, or remove them and use a proper hood.
