I received an email photo & when I tried to open, 'Invalid image' came up.
The details at bottom said 'subject'._jpg . I think the problem is the _ before jpg. Can I remove that to save the pic. If so, how?
I've tried every which way. I'd like to see the pic but!!
Tried opening with different programs: Picasa, Microsoft office pic mngr, & PSE8. All say wrong file type. HELP!

Be careful, it could be a virus. If you got it from someone you know, ask them to resend it. Don't open this one.
Better safe than sorry.

You could save the attachment then remove the _ (rename it subject.jpg) but again, it could be a virus.

Yes thanks for the warning, but I knew the origins. A simple instruction, 'rename'. I'm almost certain I tried that. However I just tried it & Bingo!!! Removed the _ & it worked. My brother-in-law had the same problem a bit back & I think he ditched the pic's. This one was no "NAT GEO" pic but the curiosity is satisfied. Thanks for that.

Possibly it has a virus because your anti-virus protect blocked it to be opened. Urge you to delete it at once.

If you have anti-virus software installed you should be able to right click the photo and scan it for viruses.

The name wasn't valid. Windows uses the extension to decide what program to use to open it. ".jpg" is a legit extension. "._jpg" is simply an unknown extension. The question is, how did it get misnamed?

Suggestion: next time, forward it to a Mac (where it can probably be opened safely), or to a friend's PC. If you're lucky, you'll still be friends after renaming and opening. :)

Interesting! I have sent pic's before & the receiver couldn't open them for the same reason. that was from Win7 to Win7. The one I asked about was same, at least not Mac. The fix I made[rename] was so simple but worked. like suggested, question is how did it get corrupted. It's not like one pushes a wrong button???? It was opening in original PC then not opening in next one after a simple emailing process. Spooky!!!!
I must add that it doesn't happen regularly.

I'm going out on a limb here, but in the past, I've seen email programs that will change the name intentionally because some email hosts, e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo, etc., have size and/or file type limitations. By changing the file extension, the attachment is seen as simple data, not a jpg photo. Whoever sent you the original photo could be using software that does this. FWIW. :)
