Shooting the pier is a term used in surfing when a surfer catches a wave and goes from one side of the pier to the other through the support columns. As you can see in this photo, the barnacles on the pillars are something to avoid at all costs to both the surfer and also the board. It takes great skill to shoot the pier as well as guts. Good shot Brent. Haven't seen that since I left the west coast. The piers in Florida are loaded with fishermen and surfers have to keep their distance not that we would have many waves which would allow them to shoot the pier!
