Hondo, You're welcome.

Fortunately, today's digital cameras keep a fair amount of notes in the exif file. However, notes about your thoughts on the subject, observation near to, but not in the photograph, etc. are also very important. My approach has always been to note my feelings about the subject, it's mood, how I want to portray the scene, etc. That can assist during post processing. Additionally, I usually have a reason for everything I do in the process. Why this f-stop, why this shutter speed, why this filter, etc. This comes from previsualizing the photograph I'm about to take and determining what I need to do to get that final image.

It may sound complicated, or frivolous, but working at it a little at a time, each step becomes a habit you've trained yourself to take. Eventually, you can glance at a scene and immediately know how your photograph will look and what it will take to accomplish that.

Thanks Bob! It does help. I don't expect to go back to film and I'm certain that I won't be in a darkroom. I'm just not good with chemicals. Just the same I think that at some point, if you are taking a lot of pictures, it helps to remember where it was, what you were thinking or trying to do. I am still fairly early on in my learning curve. I'm past the point and shoot but have hardly mastered the equipment yet. I am at the point where I have a handful of lenses and am learning what they seem to do best.

I'd be lying if I said my composition skills were good or even consistent. My youngest daughter can be shooting right next to me and I find myself asking why I didn't see it that way.

At any rate I thought some sort of written notes would help me improve, even if it's only technique.
