I am going to be in the park for 2 days in early February, since I have never been there I am looking for suggestions on what is a must see. I hear that night photography is a must there so i am hoping to do a time lapse and a few star trails. Looking forward to reading your suggestions. I would also love to see what you all have photographed while there.

Thanks,

Rena

If you like starkness and quiet, get away from the road(s), sit down and smell the roses for awhile. Don't get out of your car and start shooting stuff. Let the place invade your senses, all of them. Then when you're ready, you'll know where to point your camera. Not only are there textures and patterns, you'll find that you can plan photomerge shots also.

Joshua Tree is a really magical place. I felt a little overwhelmed both times I was there. I wanted to see everything and its just not possible in such a short time. daldds is right. Feel the place. Its powerful. You could google images for Joshua Tree to get an idea of the variety, and perhaps some things that you really want to see. I have quite a few of my photographs from Joshua Tree at studiofergmark.com

Funny thing, no one’s mentioned the Joshua trees!

Dang. RWR stole my thunder. DEFINATELY photograph Joshua trees ~ they're truly magical. I had the good fortune to stop by there for some sunrise photography and came home with a lot of beautiful photos. Drive around and see what catches your fancy. It may seem bland and mundane at first, but once you let your creative juices flow you'll do some amazing work!

Good luck and have a nice trip.

The Indian Cove area is good. Take the short hike into Barker Dam Lake. If there is a ranger led tour scheduled while you are there, the Desert Queen Ranch offers some good photo opportunities.

Good advice daldds, it never serves well to rush things.
