They actually like the taste as the shells often have some nut meat left in them. She went through the entire area carefully picking out the pecan meat!
Of course, we name her Praline.
We saw a similar scene on consecutive mornings at The Ridges in Sedona. Two scrambling Gamble Quail (?) tipped us off the first time. Glad you posted.

Lot's of them here is East Tennessee. I hear them at night. I have seen them quite a few times as well.

She spent about 20 minutes going around the house and sampling the nuts. We would look at her through different Windows and she knew every time we were there (and would keep a close eye on us!). It was fun.
