I am looking to purchase a 2x Mutar lens converter for my Zeiss 300mm lens. The lens magnification is twice the focal length, but what does "Exposure magnification 4X" mean?
It is an F4 lens. What will the largest effective F stop then be with the converter?

Don't know what "Exposure magnification 4X" means but a 2x teleconverter will lose you 2 stops or the max aperture of an f/4 lens will be f/8 with a 2x converter.

With respect to "Exposure magnification 4X" it may refer to the macro magnification due to the distance from the effect of the extension tube of the converter...just a guess, not sure.

Thanks for bearing out my suspicion that it would cost two stops. I believe your observation on the affect on close up field of view is also correct.

Thanks.

It is a Carl Zeiss. I wouldn't sweat it.
