Have any of you "serious" Photographer's ever used, or do you use, "Cap Keeper Lens Cap Holders?"

I'm wondering if any of you "serious" Photographer's ever used, or do you use, "Cap Keeper Lens Cap Holders?" Yes or no? What do you think of them? Are they a good and practical idea, or do you think that they're ridiculous and only for rank amateur's? Are they
patently worthless, or can they serve their purpose in a good and useful way, without causing more trouble than they're worth? What do you think? Thanks.

I'm a total amateur hack and I really don't care what "serious" photographers think :)! I never use them because they dangle around in front of the lens sometimes and they make changing lenses more difficult. But again, I am a total, card carrying, died-in-the-wool, USDA certified rank amateur!

Back in the beginning of time I used them for about a month! :) since then I just put the cap in my pocket.

There is no STIGMA whatever attached to using a cap keeper device to keep track of lens caps. Caps, especially those for today's smaller cameras are correspondingly small and easily lost. Some cap keepers are better designed - sturdier or more functional better than others - using common sense helps when considering ANY camera-related purchase. If you find that one doesn't work for you, throw it away and keep your eyes peeled for an alternative. A pocket filled with dust and lint is NOT the best place to keep something you plan to later attach to your expensive lens.

Never thought I would like anything dangling of the from of my lens so I don't use them.
I normally leave the lens cap at home or in my car when I go out to shoot.
I always have my 'go bag' (waist pack) with me so if I forget to leave the cap behind I can put it there.

The only one I have is on an older film Nikon that I just picked up. So far I haven't tried to remove it.

Are those the ones that dangle from the camera by a string?

If so, I'd be concerned an a windy day that they could potentially introduce vibrations while shooting on a breezy day while on a tripod. I even remove my strap when shooting on a tripod (Peak Design Slide lite) to have fewer things swaying in the wind.

If you use a strap, try self adhesive Felcro. A 1" square on the cap and a matching 1" square on the strap.

I thought it was a great idea, until I used one.

I consider myself a humorous photographer, so I am not sure if this counts . . .

Many many eons ago, while the earth was still cooling and dinosaurs roamed about in a place called Pangaea, I used them. They were just about useless on a windy day, flapping around and hitting the front element/front filter - but otherwise they were sort of ok. It was bad when the little string broke or separated from the cap - then you had to buy a new cap.

If you feel like you need something like that use some velcro to attach your cap to the bottom of the lens hood. I think they are useless.

I used to, but the string used to catch on everything.

The only camera I use with a lens cap holder is on one of my rangefinder film cameras, as the original plastic push-on lens cap falls off very easily; the cap holder prevents me from losing the hard-to-replace cap. Other than that, I don't use them as I find that they get in the way too much during use.

I have never used one, simply because I think they would constantly get in the way. For a few years now I've been using "Capbuckles" that attach to the camera strap and do work rather nicely. I used to just put them in my pant pockets, which works too, but you have to remember not to sit on them if they are in the back pocket!
