The unseasonably warm weather in central Florida has led a number of birds at the Viera Wetlands to start nesting. Several pairs of Great Blue Herons are sitting on eggs, and at least one pair of limpkins now has chicks. Hopefully now that the weather has turned cold this weekend they can keep the chicks warm.
Nice shots. What do you consider cold? I've got chickens in -12 degrees Fahrenheit who are still laying eggs... I also saw a few birds flying sideways in a blizzard (50+ mph) winds the other day. <- That WAS pretty amazing...
Super cute. Your title sounds like a cartoon character.

Thanks. As long as they have a warm place to hunker down!
That last shot is a real cutie!! Love the pose.

Nothing cuter than baby animals! I watched just the tops of the parents heads for a while, and then was fortunate to have them pop out of the reeds for 30 seconds.
Beautiful pictures! Taken about a week ago when it was warm?
Right now I'm sitting in an RV park in Alachua, freezing at 27° Farenheit.
Very nice series...i loved viewing them.

These were taken last Monday. I will be out there today looking for them, but it is in the 40's here today, so they will probably be in their nest with mom!
Nice series. Hope the chicks do o.k. It is 26 degrees here in La. right now, glad they were not born here.

Happy to report that the baby limpkins are doing well. This afternoon was very windy but it has warmed up to about 50 degrees and sunny, so they were out with mom and dad looking for food. I am almost surprised that they have both survived this week regardless of the weather. Between the hawks, osprey, cara-caras, eagles, owls, alligators, turtles, and snakes they have long odds!
