Good companionship, celebrating our 67th, augmented by the boon of the grape---Chateaux Thames Embankment, I believe.

It's an interesting photo on it's own, and one I might skip past, but if you hold for a minute it captures your attention. Thank you for sharing! S-

The photo presents a good concept, but the glass in front of the camera is quite distracting.

An adventurous idea, but anything obscuring the face is usually a no-no.

Most has been said but if it captures enough sentiment for you, tis all that matters....

I like the idea of including the foreground glass since it implies the photographer is very much a part of a special moment. It's just a little too big in the frame to work for me.

Thank you, one and all, for cogent and duly noted comments. I quite agree that it's all wrong.
Why does it work for me? Family connections? I don't think so.

I have tried this set up and always come away unsatisfied. The placement of the blurred glass seems a distraction to me, especially because it intrudes on the face too close to that gentle smile. I suspect you are less bothered by the blur because you know the subject well and can "see" what's missing from the face through familiarity, while we are not able to do that. You could try other arrangements/angles. Experimental shots are fun to repeat and play with, there is so much room for artistic interpretation in our wonderful hobby. Your subject looks quite companionable and will probably endure your experiments with more grace than my grandsons endure mine.

it works... glass, glass, hands, face
blurred beard
all held in place

I like the composition.

It might have been interesting to get another shot with front glass in focus and attempt a composite - what I don't like about the image as it stands is that the foreground glass is a hero subject and being out of focus is just too distracting.
