We spent nine days on Kauai in late November. I'm just getting around to processing images since when I got back I was behind at work.
I have only been surfing once and know very little about the sport other than it is fun to try and fun to photograph. The resident expert on the hog about surfing is BrentHarder.
I would appreciate any constructive criticism of these images by anyone here and especially Brent or any other surfers.
Most of these photos were taken on the south side of the island in Poi'pu. The one with the little kids was taken in Hanalei Bay on the north shore. That's where I had my one surf lesson. The waves were bigger the day I surfed because they had a storm. It was a good thing, because I'm pretty big and think I would have had trouble on waves that were that flat.
The surfing was a 35th wedding anniversary present from my wife. It was great, although I found out that at 60 I'm not very flexible, and surfing can really beat you up. Going to go surfing again in March in San Diego.
There were some boogie boarders in with the surfers. I had a boogie board with me and would like to have tried it, but if you look at one of these photos a boogie boarder had to dive to keep from being hit by one of the surfers. I'm not that fast anymore and decided that it was too difficult for me, at least with the big crowd.
Photos were taken with a Nikon D5 and a 150-600 Sigma Sport zoom.
Hope you like the photos, but more importantly, let me know what I could do to make the images better.
A good series of action photographs.
Well taken.
great photographs. love a good surf photo!
Wonderful action series. Nice job.
Good action and I love seeing the spray of the water, the light coming through the tube. I think you did well, eager to hear Brent's critique/opinion. Maybe PM him and see if he takes a look?

Thank all of you for the compliments. I might just PM him. That sounds like a pretty good idea.
Excellent photos catching surfers in action. Not an easy task, it takes a lot of patience. I really enjoy this set.
Excellent action shots, btbg!
