Hi,
I have a Nikon D70s I have been shooing in the auto modes and want to expand into using manual modes to get the most out of my camera. I am a visual learner and have trouble reading and applying what I read as opposed to seeing and using what I am being taught at the time. Like most everyone else I am on a budget and can't afford private lessons. Any ideas?
Thanks. Melissa

Hi Melissa,
Here is a simple suggestion from an old amateur Nikon user.
Put your camera on A (aperture mode). Set your lens for its largest aperture. This will give you bokeh on closeups and portraits and still allow for a larger depth of field on landscapes. Go take lots of pictures.
Try it and see what happens. Let me know how you make out.
Good luck!
Dear Melissa:
Thank you for your posting. If you go to this link and download a copy of the camera's manual you may find learning to use your Nikon D70 only takes patience with you.
Suggestions: As you do these suggestions have your camera ready and available to examine the words explaining it use.
1. Download the Nikon D70 pdf file below.
http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/dslr/D70_en.pdf2. Have your camera full charged and ready to use as you read the on-line manual.
3. Start from the Beginning. The Nikon Guide to Digital Photography
with the DIGITAL CAMERA. Just read only a few words and re-read little-by-little, and re-read that section before going any farther.
4. The manual can be enlarged to take up space on your desktop.
5. Next, go the section titled; How to Read This Manual.
6. Read from the top down to bottom. Don't skip. If you get impatience with you. Leave for a moment, return when the emotion past. Give you a break until you get through this information.
7. For Your Safety, read this section next and learn how to properly handle your camera.
This is to get you started and know you can do this. You eat an elephant one piece at a time.
Sincerely,
CCC
