Has anyone used non-canon batteries in a t5i or t6i ? There is a significant price difference, but I'm reluctant to buy an inferior or worst, a battery that might damage the camera.
I have one for my T3i. I rotate it with a Canon brand and have had no issues in two years.

I have used off brand (vivitar) in my 7d for 3 years with no problems
I have three Lenmar batteries and one Canon that I use in the grip of my T1i (two at a time) and have had no problems in two or three years.
I have, or have had, a T3i, 70D, 6D, 7DII, and a 5DIV. I've used both Canon and after market batteries in all of them with only one problem. That was the brand new Canon battery that came with my 70D. Would not take a charge from day one. B&H replaced it and all was good.

I've had one - that I use as a backup, Power2000 - that came with the camera, still seems to be fine 5 years later....
Mostly we use Canon batteries, but various third party brands mentioned here seem to be OK.

I have only one rule for buying anything for my camera, "Ride with the Brand." ie. own Canon, buy only Canon, own Nikon, buy only Nikon, own Sony, buy only Sony (or old Minolta glass for Sony, but Minolta still a Brand). Get it, Good, follow this advice and you will sleep better at night. Oh, this advice also extends to lenses.
I've been using 3 pairs of batteries in my Canon 40D and 50D, (same batteries for each) BG-E1 grips. Two pairs are Canon and one pair Opteka. I always keep each pair together both on chargers or in camera. So far no troubles with any of them.
I have 2 Vivitar batteries that I have been using in my Canon t5i for 2 years with no problems.

My Canon G3 battery died four years ago. Canon wanted awy more than I was willinmg to pay for a battery that small so I looked on eBay and found one from China for $18.00. Bought it and I am still using it today.

I have tried various non-original batteries for several cameras. I have never had one damage the camera.
However, I have found that they do not provide as many shots as the OEM units, so I use them for inexpensive backups.

The only camera where the non OEM batteries will not work for me is my Canon 80D.

I've used off-brand batteries for years in all sorts of things, including Canon compact. The only difference I've noticed is the substantially lower price.
Wasabi and Opteka for 4 different Models over the years no problems
