Greetings and Happy New Year to the UHH community. Has anyone upgraded their mac from maverick to sierra. Several years ago I did an upgrade that was a big mistake, it slowed my computer to a crawl. I had to get tech support to fix it, and cost $20.00. I appreciate any advice about this. THANX.

FWIW:

I upgrade my OS X as soon as the new version is available. I make sure that my important apps are patched first for the new OS, then have at it. I have never had an issue yet - been running Mac's since Leopard

I haven't had any problems when I updated to Sierra (Version 10.12.1). I'm using a late 2009 iMac. I'm sure a new computer for me is around the corner soon, as this model as far as upgrades go, will be left in the dust.

I am running a MacPro, 6 core, 32 gig memory, 2014 model. Upgraded when first available, not a problem.

Like Dngallagher I upgrade soon after the new version comes available. I have been using since Snow Leopard and have not had any problems.

I have the latest 10.12.2 and the operating system works fine. one hitch was one of our laser printers, a Canon mf4770n does not have drivers for the new Mac OS and as such cannot install it. It apparently is destined to just be a printer for the old iMac that won't take the upgrade either. Check your printer drivers available from their manufacturer that they have one for 10.12.2 if not and you do not want to purchase a new printer then you might not want to upgrade.

I have four Mac's running Sierra 10.12.2 and one older iMac running Mavericks, all are playing nice with each other, no issues.

Mine is working fine. I always get the upgrades/updates when they're available.

I"ve been using a Mac for 23 years. My first had a whopping 160 MB!!!! I HAVE had problems with apps after installing various new OSs in the past. But I didn't have ANY after installing Sierra. But that is not to say that there is an app out there that would be affected.

Check the Adobe forums to see what versions of their products work with Sierra before you upgrade, if you use Adobe products. And check printer drivers. Other than "incompatable software", the upgrade should run fine if you have sufficient memory and drive space to run it.

I think my Apple IIe had 16MB, and my IBM XT didn't have much more than that.

I upgraded to Sierra some weeks back and it wouldn't run Canon EOS Utilities, so I couldn't download images from camera to Mac. Apparently Canon hasn't upgraded, or hadn't at that stage. Bought a card reader, and it's a much better solution than downloading direct from camera to Mac, so a happy ending, but it still highlights an issue with upgrading.

That why there is Beta testing- to determine what works and what doesn't. Some Apple can fix, some has to be fixed by the originators of the code- like Canon or Epson, etc. Apple is quite open in publishing lists of what won't work with new versions of software. No one forces you to be the first to upgrade. Sit back and see what problems are found and fixed with the new release. When its looks stable and will run your software update.

In my case I didn't opt for Sierra - I took my iMac in to have some work done and the Apple crew upgraded me to Sierra as a favour. No problem there, they were being helpful. But this was some four months after Sierra had been in general use. How long do you suggest users hold off before they feel it's safe to upgrade?
