Lagerstroemia, commonly known as crape myrtle or crepe myrtle "banaba", is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world. It is a member of the family Lythraceae, which are also known as the loosestrife family. The genus is named after the Swedish merchant Magnus von Lagerström, who supplied Carl Linnaeus with plants he collected. These flowering trees are beautifully colored and are often planted both privately and commercially as ornamentals.
Love your flower shots. Could you tell me your settings for this one, and did you use a black background or substitute it in PS? Thanks for sharing.
One thing about the myrtle is that it is the first to go dormant in the fall and the last to come alive in the spring. And it looks dead even though it is not. I have seem many people uproot it thinking it was dead but if they had just waited a couple of more weeks it would have come out of it. Also they bloom all summer in our area but in other areas the they bloom differently. I have two in my yard and love the bark, the flowers and the antics.
