Hello to All, whom, have looked and/or commented.

I want to Thank everyone on the comments, verses sending individual comments taking everyone's time.

I used my Nikon D-610, with Nikor 70-200mm f2.8

I took photo in .nef raw format, used Lightroom to touch exposure up just a tad.

White Balance was set "Pre" using a white coffee filter held at mid court during the kids warm ups.

Settings were as I recall 1/500 sec, f3.2, iso 3200, I used AF-C Focus with single point most of the time...sometimes I will use 9 points, and I have focus delay on short.

This Gym is relative new with excellent lighting compared to most High School Gyms.

I shoot a lot of local football/basketball/baseball, and some ladies volley ball all for fun, and memories for our youth in our community.

My percentage of in focus, quote decent shots is about 60%, and now, and then I get one like this I think is not too bad...(I sort of consider it like a blind pig in a snow storm finding, and acorn when I get that one so called outstanding action shot with kids eyes focused, etc.)

Thanks to all for comments, and I always welcome suggestions. I love the hobby, always something to learn.

I have been blessed to have a lot of good photographers help me. One is Erv here on the forum in Ohio. He is a fantastic guy, and from the first day I joined the forum has been a very good friend, great advice, taken the time to critique photos I have emailed him.

I appreciate him so very much, He has gone thru some Health issues. I pray he is doing well, and has a super 2017.

Happy New Year to everyone, May the year 2017 be a very Healthy, and Happy Time in Your Life.

Blessings,

tom

I don't recall who got the tip...I do know I did not have the camera burst mode. I got two shots one just prior to this as they began their recoil into the jump.

Hi Tom:
Thanks for all your information. Once again the timing is perfect.
A 610 huh, I am thinking very seriously of buying the Nikon d500, or the Nikon 750.
Do you have any thoughts on which one you would buy and why. The cost is the same $2000.
I shoot a lot of high school sports. Now I have a d7100. The camera is fine for outside but not inside. Looking for a low light camera no noise at 6400-8000. for night football, etc.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Good Morning Jules,

Hope You have a nice day, 32 degrees here 25 miles Northwest of Tampa, Fl., nippy for us.

Any of those Camera's in my opinion would be good as far as I know. In my limited knowledge the good lens is the primary thing. I use a 70-200mm f2.8 Nikor lens for night Football. In some of the newer High Schools with better field lighting I can shoot @ 3200 ISO f3.2 at 1/500 to 1/640 sec. Photos maybe a bit dark. I increase exposure in Lightroom, add some luminance to reduce noise a bit. Other Fields I use iso 6400. I use an app "Neat Image" to reduce the noise in a photo I really like, and want to share with a kid, and his family. I also use a Nikon D-5000 with 17-55mm f2.8 lens in football for those plays up close inside the 20 yard line or a sideline play if I can..since the 70-200mm is too long up close. For Basketball I switch between the Nikor 70-200mm f2.8 and the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 which I found is a terrific lens, and much less expensive than the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens..and just about as good focus, and sharpness.

I hope my little ramble helps.

There are some very knowledgeable folks on the forum that can advise you much better than I.

Have a nice day.

tom
