A portrait of yesterday's Bald Eagle.

A cold and partly sunny day yesterday when I took this photo of a Bald Eagle from about 125-150 feet away.
I used 800mm. Hand held shot.
Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II f4 - Canon 2.0x III - 1/400 - f/10 - ISO @ 1000.
I'm new to UHH, but have been following for weeks and am amazed at your eagle shots, they really are stunning! What amazes me most is that they're hand held. I've noticed numerous frustrating posts from people lamenting soft focus shots of wildlife with long lenses and comments from fellow photographers to use tripods with gimbal heads, turn off vr/is, use remotes, etc. and you blow that all out of the water..impressive!
Hello Regis
Super sharp photo I like it too. Happy new year's.
Regis, I'm seeing lots of eagles, both here and on the Facebook site North American . . . . Yours are the best, I believe, hands down. Congratulations for your fine photos.
Beautiful image Regis and you set the standards which I use to compare other eagle images to!

A striking image of this magnificent bird, Regis. It would be thrilling to see one.
I may never be that fortunate but I sure enjoy seeing
your captures. sm24

How do you do this ? One smashing eagle shot after another. Mirrors? Magic ? Do you somehow have trained eagles who sit for you? If I even tried to hand hold an 800mm shot all I would get is a blur, regardless of the speed. Extremely well done. Happy New Year

My lens weighs 4.6 lbs. The camera/lens/convertor weighs a total 7.5 lbs. Yes, I hand hold all my shots, but I wouldn't recommend this style of
shooting to everyone. Use a tripod or mono-pod if you have to get a good steady photo. I walk a good 1 mile round trip to get these photos so
for the average photographer, this might be a struggle for some people to carry this much weight plus the tripod weight.
I like to move around, so this my style of photographing for more than 6 years. Not too shabby for a 73 year old.
Thank you very much, dogdude.
