re Lightroom 6 standalone update

Can an update be had for standalone Lightroom 6? Does one pay for the updates? I've never searched for one until today thinking that may be why Lightroom no longer opens for me. The Adobe website took me in circles for the last 2 hours. It said Lightroom 6.8 is the most recent version and indicated it is available for standalone as well as CC6 but trying to find the download link was impossible. If I uninstall and reinstall it, how do I get my catalog back in it? And no, I don't want CC. Thank for any help you can give me.

I found it on Amazon for download.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_7_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=lightroom+6+software&sprefix=lightroom+%2Caps%2C218&crid=PQBI0SZYBQF2

When you install, you have to create an Adobe ID with an email. If you already have Lightroom CC, you will need a different email for standalone LR6

The way it works is that there is a difference between "updates" and "upgrades". Lightroom 6 (standalone) continues to update with bug fixes and RAW support for new cameras for free. It does not upgrade with any new features such as the Haze filter or Lightroom mobile that people pay for through their monthly CC fee.

The typical free update method for the stand alone version is to use the Help menu and pick the Update choice. You should not have to uninstall anything as it does what is necessary for you.

Since you can't open Lightroom, you can't get to the Help menu. You could uninstall, re-install and then update.

Another choice is a direct download. It should see that you have an active installation and use the serial number. If not be prepared to type it in. There are two web pages that I know of with direct links. The first is Adobe and it is part way down the page. The second is from the Lightroom Queen and it is toward the end of her page outlining the update.

Make sure you have a copy of your catalog(s) somewhere safe so that if the update does not open the right catalog you can do it your self.

I thought that the OP was trying to update his/her already owned LR6. If he/she is trying to upgrade from and earlier version, my suggestions are all wrong!

One addition is that there is a sales tax savings at B&H that Amazon does not give me. I save nearly 10% on everything I choose to buy from B&H over Amazon, including software downloads.

Thank you. I'll try your suggestions--I don't need to upgrade--just update LR6 that I already own. And not interested in CC at this time.

Thanks, but I already have the program--just looking to update to 6.8. I'm using the original 6.0.

I've had no problem updating my Stand alone LR 6 for the last year on my Win 10 machine. Now at Ver 6.8 and Camera Raw 9.8. I just go to Help and Updates and that lets me know if I need or have the latest update.

Thanks. I had to uninstall and reinstall so I could get to the help. I had been using it for over a year and it just went missing while I was away for Christmas.

When you open LR, click on Help and go down toward the bottom of the list and click on Updates. If any are available, you will get them for free.

Then bring up LR, go to help tab on top and click on updates. I don't have Stand Alone version but if there is a auto update click I would set it up. Any time you have a problem make sure it is not already fixed but looking for updates. If you get to the point where you have to call them, they will instruct you first to get up-to-date and see if the problem goes away.

All is well, thanks. Reinstalled and it works fine--did the update.
