Beautiful shots! I'm trying to catch the northern mockingbird nesting in my lilac bush. So far they have been very illusive.
These are both very nice images. I particularly like the fact that both birds are shown in their natural habitat instead of at a bird feeder or on a porch railing. While getting images of birds in their natural habitat are more difficult. . .the rewards, when done, are so much greater. Two great images, well done.

what setting (aperture) did you use to get the soft background? I seem to have problems achieving this as my sx40 only goes up to f8.0.Thanks!!

Chickadee was shot at F2.8
Robin was at F7.
I was about 15 feet from the bird. Shot with a 400MM Prime Lens. I as constantly changing my aperture between each shot. Shot in Aperture priority mode.

OK rlaugh my bad picture. Straight from the camera. I shoot in small JPEG and RAW. This is the small JPEG.
Looks like I got LENS flair to the right! It is tack sharp at the eye though.
