I would like to see the photo without the distorting of it. I my opinion it ruins the shot; looks fake.

I respect your opinion whitewolfowner but in this particular photo I purposely pushed it over the "realistic" edge as my own personal preference. It gives it a rather "edgey" look that I was after. I realize this type of Post Production work is not for everyone. I would guess it probably appeals more to the younger surfer type people than to my age type people.

If that's what they like and they buy it then you're doing what makes it sell. But if I were to be buying a photo, I would want it as a realistic photo; I would not buy it as it is.

whitewolfowner, for one thing, I am not selling anything. I do photography mostly as an outlet for my artistic creativity. I'm an artist first and a photographer second. Often times I experiment with photos and see what the possibilities can become. I'm curious if you don't mind telling me what your age is? My guess is that you are older than being in your 20’s. Here are a couple of links to other surfing photos that I did in a more realistic pursuit. Surfing photos is my personal favorite subject. Thanks for your thoughts whitewolfowner.
Perhaps you will like some of these better? Much more realistic.

I have seen several of those as you have posted them in the past. I am 61; yes an ole fart and I am guess what you would call a realist. There are some manipulations i have seen that are very artistic and well done. I (and this is only my opinion; not right or wrong), but i think I would like the photo and appreciate it more if the manipulations were toned down a bit. You do a fine job of photographing surfing. I would guess that you surf or have surfed yourself.

... well. Brent, I'm 70, used to surf, and I appreciate all your work ... including this one. Keep 'em coming.

whitewolfowner, you are "age wise" well past the prime target of this photo that I have posted here. Actually since I am even an older fart than you are, I should also be past that prime target age for this photo too. I enjoy "realistic" photos and art too. Often in the past I have painted photo realistic style paintings. I'm not "locked in" to only photo realistic photos or art. That's like only enjoying one type of music. Everyone has their own opinions, likes and dislikes. This photo that I have posted obviously does not float your boat. That's ok, I understand and it's cool!

It's not that it don't float my boat; I appreciate what you have done and do admire artistic work; it's just that I would enjoy and appreciate it in realistic terms. You do a fine job of photographing surfers and I enjoy the fixed photo the most.

OK whitewolfowner, would you like me to locate and find and post the original photo of Steph Gilmore on this thread so you can see the original before I did all my PP work on it? It's all realistic.

OK whitewolfowner, I located it and am now presenting the original to you for your viewing. I have a feeling you will like this original much more than the altered experiment image that I posted here at the top since you are into realistic (normal) photos!

Yes, I do like that so much better, myself. A great shot too. You must have been on a pier to be shooting down on her like that?

Yes whitewolfowner, you are exactly correct. This photo was taken from the Huntington Beach Pier. There is a North and South side to take photos from and I always check the sun and lighting before I choose which side to shoot from. I have found that shooting from the pier is the most optimum angle to shoot surfers from.......much better than from the beach. Plus, because you can walk out on the pier as far as you want, you can get very close to the surfers and don't need a huge telephoto.
Glad you like the original photo! Thanks for the "great shot" comment!
