Looking for suggestions

I have a Canon point and shoot camera. I'm looking for suggestions to replace that camera. I enjoy taking architectural and landscapes the most. I bought my granddaughter a Canon EOS Rebel T5i bundle. That seem to be a pretty good camera and the bundle was fully loaded for about $525.00. Thoughts?

If you thought enough of the T5i to buy it for her ask her if she would lend it to you for a couple of days to "play with". Must handle a camera to truly choose.

You seem to be a generous Grammy ! ....I say just hire the Granddaughter and have fun with her and her camera to see if you want something more !

I see rich1945 pretty much agrees with me !

Many photo stores are selling camera bundles that are good deals, including the T5i you purchased for $525. As mentioned, the two of you should experiment. If you like it, purchase one for yourself.

If you are happy with the point and shoot idea, you might like to take a look at the Canon SX60.

Compare the price of the bundle with the price of a body and a decent lens. Sometimes a dealer will make up a bundle with bits and pieces you don't need and will never use. Usually, getting the body and lens together will save you money.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

Did you not just answered your own question? (By providing good reasons why you bought said camera for your daughter)!

What lens or lenses are in the bundle? The 18-55mm should get you started in landscapes and architecture. If you find it's not wide enough, you can learn to take panoramas by stitching 2 or 3 vertical shots together.

How deeply into photography would you like to eventually get?

Would you consider yourself a weekend warrior, or do you intend to be out there as often as you can?

Do you want to take snapshots or photographs? There is a difference!

Printing and framing larger format shots, or just building a scrapbook collection?

Depending on your answers to these questions, and your potential budget, I'm sure that there will be lots of suggestions made.

I will let you know that when I bought my Canon Rebel T5 almost 2 years ago, I didn't think that I would need more camera than that. Little did I know that after taking a College Credit Digital Photography Class I would outgrow that camera within 9 months of purchasing it!

As soon as I get a new job, I'll be buying a Canon 7D MII. I need the high 10 FPS burst speed that the upgrade offers. The money has been put aside since last July! But, that's a lot of camera for someone who's just starting out with their first DSLR!

Also, buy the best quality glass you can afford, try to stay away from "Kit" lenses.

Over time you will likely add to your lens collection, the better quality lenses will hold their value rather than "Kit" lenses. Canon manufactures three different quality of lenses. Try to get into their middle price line if you can. Their pro lenses are quite expensive!

Buy a camera you can grow into, but one that's not going to be so far over your head to the point where you just want to throw it out the window and walk away from photography!

Check out B&H Photo or Adorama, as reputable online suppliers.

There is also Hunt's Photo, where I shop almost exclusively, they stood behind me when a new lens that I purchased at the Melrose, MA store malfunctioned almost from day one. After several trips back there, it finally malfunctioned in the store, and they gave me full credit towards another lens to replace it! My sales rep there is Pete Prichard!

Stay away from 42nd Street, because they have the worst reputation, and there are horror stories posted here on this forum, check out the search function at the top of any page!

My wife has taken a lot of pictures with her point and shoot. She wanted a better camera so we bought her a Panasonic G7. She doesn't use the G7 because it is "too complicated." You must be willing to invest the significant time necessary to learn how to properly use the T5i or you may end up with worse pictures than you get with your point and shoot and you won't understand why.

T6i. 24mp and if it's anything like my t3i, it'll do excellent video with external audio.

I'd get the same camera as the granddaughter except perhaps see if you can get a different lens with the bundle . . . That way you two can share lenses, share knowledge, learn together . . .

Excellent entry camera. You can learn a lot from this camera so that in the future if you want to advance your photography you can upgrade. It is a good starting place for you... good luck..
