Any problems with Sony SEL FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G Lens ?

I've been looking at maybe going for a used Sony 90mm f2.8 Macro G OSS. While browsing on eBay, I noticed several (at least 3 currently) of them listed as broken, or for parts or not working. The problems vary - broken glass, pictures blurry, lens not recognized, whirring grinding noises, mount snapped off to name a few. No common problem that I could detect.
All of the reviews that I've read speak very highly of the quality of the construction and the image quality. However, I don't think I've seen as many 'for parts' offerings for any other lenses. Just wondering if this lens is particularly accident prone or is it a quality problem.

Check the B&H website for reviewer comments on this lens. I bought it new from them last summer and love it.

This is my favourite lens at the moment. Macro great but portraits superb!

I bought the 90mm macro when it first came out and love the lens. I have not had any problems, image quality and reliabilty is second to none.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm wondering if the lack of a tripod mount on such a heavy lens is partly to blame for drops. I'll be putting this on an A6000 for the moment and I am concerned that it will be front heavy. Any body care to comment?

Thanks Toment. I haven't found any on KEH or Adorama. I'll look again. mpb.com has several. I haven't heard of MPB before. Seems like a good site. Thanks for mentioning it.

TBH Repleo, it's not that heavy at 600gms so you wouldn't really expect a tripod foot which would only increase the weight when hand holding. I suppose you could make a case for a TF on a Macro but it's rarely done if ever. The only thing I'd caution you about is that the AF is not that quick; that's normal for a Macro but not necessarily good for things like snapping Kids scurrying about. Other than that, it's a fine lens.

Thanks Peekayoh. I found a strap on TF (ASTAT-Nex Tripod Collar) that should work if it becomes a problem. A bit pricey, but at least there is a solution if needed. I have a bid in on 90mm macro on ebay. There are a couple of more coming up as well. I may get lucky.
Thanks for the response and Merry Christmas.

That should work assuming it's a fit: let us know how it works out.
Good luck with the bidding and a Merry Christmas to you and anyone else who's looking.
