The biggie: MERRY CHRISTMAS - HAPPY NEW YEAR
The smallie: I have determined that 2017 will be the year of NARROW BAND. I have pried the DSLR's from my hands and will spend the next 12 months shooting a mono CCD camera - LRGB and Narrow Band. I have not mastered anything but feel the need to kick the dust of the CCD and have at it.
Back to the biggie: I hope each "hog" can rejoice in this season with your families - kick back and be merry!
I wish you great success with that mono CCD. I want to get into that myself this year, and hoping that I am able to retire by the end of January so I have time to shoot up. Its a really clear night tonight, and I just had to get outside tonight and shoot something. Took the easy route tonight. Using the Sony A6300 with the Tokina 300mm f2.8. Not too cold either. First opportunity in almost 2 months.
What CCD are you using?
Good luck.
I will be using two cameras one is an Atik460ex and the other is a CMOS sensor camera that is getting a lot of positive news made by ZWO Optical....the ASI1600MM-Cool. It is a 4/3rds camera 16 megapixel. I have an Atik filterwheel that works great with this camera and my first few experiences have been very very impressive. So between the two....I hope to get some decent new colors in narrow band. When it comes to RGB, I don't think I can improve on the Nikon.....and I love my DSLR nights. Go on to Astrobin and look at some of the images taken....just do a search using
ASI1600MM-cool
Retirement! YEA! I will be starting a 3 day basketball tournament on Dec 28,29,30 - I do this every year.....8 games a day for three days. ..and my schedule picks up at a fast pace until school is out. So my available nights to shoot will be few and far between.

A lot of good reviews on that Atik 460ex!
I comparing images taken by the 460ex and the ASI camera on Astrobin.....I have to give the nod to the ASI. ...and it is a fraction of the price.
Good look with the new...have you checked out the download time...mine is nearly 30 seconds, it's not bad if you can set it off and come back to it later, but it's a lot of time, especially when you need to cycle thru all of the filters.
Given the downside to filters, it's amazing when you can start doing the Hubble pallet and get those amazing color images. Maybe some day I can get to that setup.
Wishing all a Merry Christmas and happy new year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year back, and all around. Spike the Nog!
Given your prior examples you have posted Ed, I have very high expectations of excellence.
I'm sure you won't disappoint either. But that's what you get for having set the bar so high.
There is a LOT of buzz around the 1600, all seems to be good. It has a 1000 second exposure limit, but for stacking that should be a big enough window. (16.66 minutes is a long guide!)
I'm still optimistic that one day CMOS will surpass CCD in imaging. But I wonder if I will ever see that. I'm encouraged by the cooled CMOS peppering the field of cameras.
Is your Filter Wheel an electronic one? I've read where some have faced difficulties because of a 5 filter wheel, and wanting to use more than 5 filters doing RGBL & NB. Of course, to every problem,
there is a $olution. Sans vignetting of 1.25" filters...
Quick Link to Astro bin images. Looking forward to your findings.
Adding a comparison of the Atik 460EX and 490EX -- seems to conclude that the 460EX is the better route unless you really need finer resolution. But the 460EX is lower noise and bigger pixels meaning longer exposures without over blowing bright areas and better sensitivity.

You're in for a learning experience. Not so much new with capture BUT processing is a definitely new experience (and can be rather frustrating initially; don't give up). I use ImagesPlus, PixInsight, Lightroom and Photoshop for processing. What is your software of choice?
I've had a mono ATIK 428Ex for quite a while and just received a mono ATIK Infinity this afternoon, and use both with an ATIK nine position filterwheel.
Don't pass up LRGB for solely Narrow Band. LRGB with a mono camera is superb; pretty much beats any color camera.
Have fun! And Merry Christmas

Looking forward to seeing a few posts from your new Infinity. I did have some learning curve with it, and have gotten better with practice. Be sure to update the Infinity SW to the very latest. Its been rev'd about 4 times in the past year and each time gets a little better. Currently, the OSC results are too yellow and they are working on that, but with your mono, you won't have that issue. I hope to jump into mono imaging soon. But OSC does have its place too.
