I joined this nice group several weeks ago, and have been reading/ learning a lot. I am a novice to photography, and wish to advance my skills and knowledge.

My wife has a Nikon D3100 and loves it because of its simplicity (relatively speaking). I do know enough to teach her to primarily use Aperture Priority mode, and she really does pretty good ! She finds that in most cases, she can get better results in low light (up to a point of course) using existing light rather than using the flash.

As for me, I just got a Nikon D7200, and I have two initial questions.

Question 1: How can I get a picture that I have just taken to automatically appear on the view screen ? On the D3100, when my wife takes a picture, it instantly appears on the view screen, but for me (D7200) I have to press the view button every time I take a picture. I have looked and looked at the menu items and also in my after market book on this camera, but cannot find how to set this.

Question 2: This one I am embarrassed to ask, as it should be easy to find in the menu ,or the book. For the life of me, I cannot see where/how to set the ISO on the D7200. Once again, I have looked and looked at the menu items and also in my after market manual for this camera, but cannot find how to set the ISO.

----------------------

Now you all can readily see why I admitted up front that I was a novice.

Thanks !!

Bill, that video did it for me !! Very simple, but I swear I don't think this very basic setting is in the book. Even in the index, you would think that you would find an "ISO setting" entry, but there is none. I do plan to watch the full video that follows, which is the top 5 settings to change in the D7200.

I also found the answer to my Question # 1, about the image appearing automatically.

SO, I have made some advancements this morning already !! Thanks !!

There are several really good books on the D7200. I have a few of them and they are very helpful, informative and fun to read. Here are a few. I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of at least one of these books. They will always be available to help you and they won't argue or squabble or insult you if you ask what's perceived as a duplicate question or a redundant question or a stupid question.

Nikon D7200: From Snapshots to Great Shots
Mastering the Nikon D7200
David Busch’s Compact Field Guide for the Nikon D7200
David Busch’s Nikon D7200 Guide to Digital SLR Photography

They're available at your local big box book store and Amazon.com

Don't be embarrassed. None of us were born with a camera in our hands and a full understanding of everything photography. In fact, most of us are still working on that full understanding of everything photography. At least, I know I am still working on it after 41 years. And I am sure that I still will be for the next fifty or so years if I should live that long. Welcome to UUHs.
