Seriously considering this lens to go with my Sony a6000. I have researched it quite a bit and it will my needs for my walk around replacing the kit 55-210mm lens. Most of my photography is 'street' stuff and old buildings. I do landscapes as well. Own a Rokinon 12 mm and a Sony Macro. So my thinking is this fills out my needs and still keep the 'package' small and transportable.

Now I am just really wanting to get opinions from actual users of the lens if there any. The price ($600) seems to be consistent every where.

Thanks for any insights.

The 18-105 is the 'always on' lens on my A6000. I have recommended getting this lens as a first lens to several potential A6XXX buyers here in the past. The range is perfect for your type of work. The 18-105 is bulkier than the other Sony E lenses. It feels just right on the camera, but it takes up nearly as much space as 3 primes in your bag due to its width. Even so, I would have no trouble packing your other three lenses and the 18-105 on-camera into something like a ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover 30i bag. Its a really nice lens. You will love the feel, versatilty and of course the IQ. I got mine new for $500 during a Sony sale, but it is worth the $600 full price.
Get it - you won't regret it.

I opened my Christmas present a little early (boo shame on me) a few days ago. A Sony A6500 with the 18-105 lens. I have been using it only a few days but there is nothing not to like about it. The fixed physical length (does not expand when you zoom) allows polarizer use with out having to change position. The fixed f4 aperture is super. I have taken a lot of Christmas pix, and a soccer game of my grandson. It is never off the camera. Like you I researched and studied and agonized over a lens to take to Europe next year and to use as I go back and forth between Florida, Texas and Colorado. What finally made the decision for me was a photographer friend (actually two of them) went on an extended river boat/land tour in Europe last year with an Italy extension. Both friends recommended this range. Although one was shooting Nikon, the other Canon, they both had zooms in the range of the 18-105. They said they took 95% of the shots they wanted with that range. I think you will be very happy with it. I amvery happy with it for the short time I have used it. All the best and good shooting! Oh btw I did a lot of shopping and the price seems to be $598 no matter where you buy it local stores or New York companies that have been recommended by others on this forum.

A couple of years ago, I purchased a 18-200mm 3.5 Sony lens and I'm extremely happy with it. It is my walk around lens and can be locked in at the 18mm length.

I use this lens on my NEX 6 and a6300. It is wonderful! The power zoom is variable speed, it is silent, no change in length on zooming or focusing, no barrel rotation on focus or zooming. The IQ is great. What I don't see mentioned is that this lens is a great video lens. The focus and zoom rings are freely rotating so they don't come to an image jarring stop during a video. This lens is a terrific bargain at its selling price.
