And posters on UHH and elsewhere keep saying "It's not the camera", "It's not the camera". But I notice they are quick to get in line for the latest and greatest.

Actually, it is the camera, and don't you forget it. If we buy into that "photographer's skill" propaganda, we'll be stuck with the soon-to-be-outdated hardware we have now. "Update, now and forever!"

Sounds like you are saying skill is just propaganda and has nothing to do with photography. It's all the camera. I think some people will disagree with that. It's nice to have a modern, up-to-date camera but there is more to it than that.

Sorry, but I should have put a ;-) after that comment. Of course skill plays a major role in photography. That's why we have such an active forum here - lots of tips about taking better pictures.
