Wondering what the group thinks or does about posting pics of family kids or grandkids on the Web? Although I do post on Instagram I never post the grandkids since I have open account. If I shot pics of them I create Apple or Google share album for the family. I think some of them a very good phtographically but am concerned about the creepy factor out there.

I have a rule for myself. I never post an image to social media of anyone, other than myself, without their explicit approval. I do employ DropBox, and the images I put there are accessible only to those I send a link to.
The world, and the internet, being what they are, if you post a photo of a kid there is always the chance of it ending up on a porn site if some creep spots it. Does it happen often? Probably not. Can it happen? Sure. Your call on how comfortable you are with the risk, however slight it might be. One thing to keep in mind: If you post any photos of family, friends, your home, pets, whatever, make sure the GPS function of your camera, if it has it, was off when you took the shot or that you deleted that data.
What Bruce says. Unless you have a formal internet release don't do it.
Talking about grandkids so the release isn't the issue it's the creepy factor out there.

Oh? Being a grand kids gives the right to the grand parents to post their mugs on the WEB?
Only the legal guardian of the kid can sign a release. Forget the family factor for a second and think a bit more.
Sure you are less likely to run into trouble but the possibly is there. As to the 'creep factor' it exists for everything.
What I meant was that the legal issues are considerably less of a concern than the creep factor. Your tone also leaves a lot to be desired but I have noticed some people (a very small minority) on this site need some attitude adjustment. Just saying.
There must be countless millions of grandchildren photos posted on the internet for all the world to see. At least several million on Facebook alone!
I put grandkids pics on facebook. My page is set so they are only available to "friends" on facebook, not "friends of friends".
My daughter wouldn't approve of me posting their pics on the HOG or other open access sites.

I never post pics on the web and have cautioned my grandkinds about the dangers of posting. But that raises the question --is posting pics on this forum the samething as posting on the web?

What do you think? Is not this a public forum that anyone can access w/o limit?
Why do people see the need to post snaps of their grandkids on open websites? To the grandparents these kids are really good looking and photogenic and cute and everything else one can think off. In fact they are often quite ugly snot nosed brats which no one else is the faintest bit interested in!
Just post em for family and friends who are a lot more tolerant than me and not as honest.

Who else besides family can get the shots off Apple or Google site where you share photo's with them? Aren't you password protected? If you think someone on the outside could hack in take that issue up with the family, if everyone agrees to keep on keeping it on then by all means go ahead. If some are reluctant to participate make sure their kids are excluded in the future. This thread sounds more like Dear Abby instead of a photography question.
I never post GK pictures. Of that I am very careful.
