I just received a Lexar Professional 32 GB SD card. The insert tells me to download Image Rescue 5 from the Lexar website. Has anyone used this software? Is there similar software that is available that will read any card or do you have to use the manufacturer's software? Hopefully I'll never need it but am curious about its use, other recovery software and your experiences. Thanks!

I've used Recuva from Piriform to recover photos that were accidentally deleted, and even from cards that were reformatted. The only images not recovered were those overwritten by another image - when going through the recovery process there is an error message indicating that.
Recuva is free.

While I do have several Lexar SD cards, I have never used their recovery software and don't know if it will recover from other brand cards.

I use SanDisk and Kingston cards and have recovery software from both. Each seems to work on any memory card. The only thing I've noticed is that the Kingston "Media Recover" software seems to be very slow compared to the SanDisk "Rescue Pro" software.

I have used it. I can't remember if this is the one that recovers as TIF files. I suggest trying it on a card you have already downloaded the pictures. It works but I use SanDisk more.

I use it in the store to recover images for customers regularly, it works quite well on ANY memory card, SD, CF, XD ,XQD and even Sony Memory sticks so far.

Colinus, welcome to the Hog!
I've never had to recover erased pics so have no experience with that.
BUT, I have had 3 different Sandisk CF cards corrupt on me in the last two years. Using the Sandisk program I was not able to recover any of the images including using special recovery software sent by Sandisk. I lost about 2000 images total. Very fortunately none where a paid job.
If you have irreplaceable images, before you even mess with recovery, you might consider sending the card to the manufacturer for them to attempt a recovery but it's pretty expensive! Good luck

Thanks MT. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks to all others for their help, as well. Fortunately, I've not had a disc issue yet, but just preparing for the eventuality!

I have used it and find it a bit slow as it searches and reveals all images, which on a 32 gb SD card can be many! I suppose that is the nature of the software.

I use all Lexar cards and have Imagerescue 5 software on my computer but not installed, no need to install if you don't need it.

I remember someone posting that he used that software to recover photos. For the price, you can't go wrong. And there's always Recuva.

I have used Lexar's recovery software once, whatever the current version was, to recover from a blunder that was completely my fault. I learned two things. First, the recovery was excruciatingly slow but it worked masterfully, and secondly, not to be so dumb ever again. I own only Lexar cards and have had no other trouble, but I assume that is good luck more than anything else. I am quite happy that I have little experience in these matters! Best of luck & Happy Holidays.

I have, and use, image rescue 5. I actually purchased it when my laptop card reader completely destroyed the images on a 32gb SanDisk SD card. or so I thought. I was thrilled with the results. ir5 even recovered some images that had never been read before! I have found it reasonably fast on my computer, and have used it with a couple different card brands. however, i do NOT use laptop readers anymore! ;-) best of luck and happy holidays.

I've used the Lexar Image Rescue and it works fine with any brand of memory card. I've used Image Rescue successfully with Lexar, Sandisk and Sony memory cards.

Fortunately, I haven't needed to use it very frequently. Over the years I've had versions 2, 3, 4 and now 5 installed on both my desktop and laptop, just in case.

Normally it would cost you about $40 for the Image Rescue software, so getting it for free when you buy a Lexar memory card is a good deal.

It works really good. I have had to use it twice (accidental erasures by my wife). One has all the pictures retitled/numbered, but that a lot better than the loss of photographs. Plus, it has had very good reviews and supposedly works with any chip.

Usually the software will work with most brands of cards, but it is developed for specific Lexar cards. There are also "generic" rescue programs designed to work with many different types and sizes of cards. Most offer a free trial use before purchase is required(the download will work one time only).
