As winter comes and the terrible cold weather up north sends more birds our way I will have to get out and explore more areas here in Central Florida. But for now I can appreciate the nearby fantastic birding spot of the Rich Grissom Viera Wetlands (also known as the Brevard County Wastewater Treatment Plant).
I was at the Wetlands Thursday night to close up. Some below are from then. And yesterday was a perfect Florida day -70's, sunny, with a slight breeze. The gators were sunning themselves and several of the great blue herons have stopped mating and are now sitting on nests.
I watched as the gator slowly inched towards the anhinga and then quietly submerged - I was waiting for him to lunge out of the water - but the smart anhinga flew off in time!
I woke up the great blue trying to nap as I got close enough for the photo - the lighting was so nice. He went back to sleep when I was done...
